Seattle, Washington — 1987 – 1996

Women. Men. Drifters. Night workers. People walking home alone.

Police never found their killer.

The newspapers eventually gave him a name: The Dollmaker.

But the public never learned the worst part.

They were preserved.

The Mirror

Thirty years later, a young Seattle woman buys an enormous antique mirror from an estate liquidator.

The dealer tells her: “Nobody wanted this one.”

“Why?”

The dealer doesn’t laugh. “It came out of that house.”

That night, she discovers why. At 2:41 A.M., she wakes and sees something reflected behind her. A little girl sitting in a chair. She turns around. Empty chair. Looks back. The girl is still there.

Except she isn’t a child. She’s one of the Dollmaker’s preserved victims. And she’s looking directly at her.

The Mirror Starts Revealing The Crimes

Night One

A terrified adult victim running through rainy Seattle streets.

Night Two

Someone following fifty feet behind. Never close enough to identify.

Night Three

A basement. Rows of empty chairs. Old dresses hanging from hooks. A man's hands carefully arranging someone's hair. We never clearly see his face.

Night Four

The finished room. The new owner looks into her mirror — and sees eight human-sized dolls sitting behind her. She spins around. Nothing. Back to the mirror. Now there are nine.

The Horrific Discovery

She researches the old Dollmaker murders. One police photograph stops her cold. The same mirror is visible in the background.

She enlarges the photograph. Something is reflected in it that the original detectives apparently missed. A man. Standing behind the photographer. Watching the police investigate his own crime scene.

She finds another photograph. Same man. Another crime scene. Same man. Then she realizes something worse. The police never photographed his face directly. Only his reflection.

The Dollmaker apparently understood exactly what the mirror could do.

The Big Scare

Late that night, she covers the mirror with a blanket.

She wakes at 3:13 A.M. The blanket is on the floor.

She looks into the mirror. Her bedroom is gone.

Instead she sees the Dollmaker’s basement.

A long dining table. Around it sit his preserved victims. Motionless. Then — every head slowly turns toward her simultaneously.

At the head of the table sits an empty chair. A handwritten card rests on the plate:

Reserved

Inside the mirror, one of the victims suddenly moves. Barely.

Its eyes turn toward her. Its lips struggle open.

“He’s still alive.”

She whispers: “Who?”

Every light inside the reflected basement goes out.

THUMP.

One comes back on. Someone is standing behind her reflection. Tall. Older. Face obscured.

She doesn’t turn around.

The reflected man slowly places both hands on her reflected shoulders. Then whispers:

“They never caught me.”

She screams and spins around. Nobody.

She turns back — her reflection is gone.

Now she’s sitting in the empty chair at the Dollmaker’s table. And all nine victims are staring at her.

Final Twist

Seattle police arrive after neighbors report screaming. The apartment is empty. No struggle. No body. Only the antique mirror.

Detective examines it. Nothing unusual.

Then the camera slowly moves toward the glass. Deep inside the reflection is the Dollmaker’s dining room. Ten figures now sit around the table.

And behind them stands an elderly man carefully adjusting the newest figure’s hair. For the first time — he looks directly into the mirror.

Smiles.
